For most of my adult life, I thought the answer was finding the right person.
I thought if I could just meet the right woman, everything would finally make sense. I'd feel secure. Confident. Loved. At peace.
What I didn't realize was that I was asking other people to solve problems that only I could solve.
That realization took me decades.
It cost me relationships.
It cost me peace of mind.
And it kept me stuck in the same patterns for far too long.
I've always enjoyed writing, and journaling has been part of my life for years.
One day I found myself reading through old journal entries and realized I had been running the same relationship patterns over and over again.
That's when it hit me.
Nothing was ever going to change until I did.
The common denominator wasn't them.
The common denominator was me.
That was the bad news.
The good news was that if I was the problem, I could become part of the solution.
I remember thinking to myself, there has to be a better way.
We're not meant to live with anxiety, fear, and doubt running our lives every day.

One of the greatest gifts in my life has been the opportunity to love, support, and help raise another human being.
Some of life's most meaningful lessons didn't come from books or podcasts. They came from relationships, responsibility, and learning how to show up for someone day after day.
Once I stopped blaming circumstances, bad luck, or the women I was dating, everything started to change.
Not overnight.
Not magically.
But steadily.
I started reading.
Going to therapy.
Learning about attachment styles.
Studying communication.
Exploring boundaries.
Trying to understand why I kept repeating the same patterns over and over again.
The more I learned, the more I realized I wasn't alone.
Millions of people were struggling with the same things.

For years I was carrying far more than extra weight.
I was carrying insecurity.
Self-doubt.
Fear of rejection.
The need for constant reassurance.
The weight loss came later.
The real transformation only started when I took complete responsibility for my life.
Not some of it.
All of it.
The biggest lesson I learned was surprisingly simple.
The goal was never perfection.
The goal was never certainty.
The goal was emotional security.
That shift changed everything.
My relationships improved.
My confidence improved.
My health improved.
Most importantly, my relationship with myself improved.

Losing more than 100 pounds changed my life.
But the physical transformation wasn't the most important part.
The emotional transformation was.
For the first time, I was building a life that wasn't dependent on someone else's approval.
Oh, by the way…
My name is Rich.
I'm 57 years old.
I've been divorced twice.
I've been online dating since 2007.
I've spent a good portion of my life learning things the hard way.
These days I live in Arizona, play a lot of pickleball, continue working on myself, and spend my spare time building Secure Is Sexy.
I'm still learning.
Still growing.
Still becoming.
And honestly, I'm excited about the next chapter of my life.
I hope you're excited about yours too.

Why Secure Is Sexy Exists
At some point I realized that most people aren't struggling because they're broken.
They're struggling because nobody ever taught them emotional security.
We learn math.
We learn history.
We learn science.
But very few of us ever learn how to manage anxiety, communicate securely, set boundaries, regulate emotions, or build healthy relationships.
Secure Is Sexy was created to help fill that gap.
Not with gimmicks.
Not with manipulation.
Not with dating games.
But with practical tools, honest conversations, and real-world experience.
Maybe your story looks different than mine.
Or maybe it doesn't.
What I've learned is that most of us are looking for the same thing.
Peace.
Connection.
Love.
The problem is that many of us spend years looking for those things in other people before we learn how to build them within ourselves.
That was certainly true for me.
For years, I thought the answer was finding the right person.
What I eventually learned was that the answer was becoming the kind of person I could trust.
That's what Secure Is Sexy is all about.
Not perfection.
Not having all the answers.
Not becoming some relationship expert.
Just becoming a little more secure today than you were yesterday.
Because the goal is not certainty.
The goal is emotional security.
You don't arrive.
You become.
I wish someone had given me this assessment 30 years ago.
Maybe it's where yours begins.
