Boundaries
Healthy Boundaries Aren't Walls
April 2026 · 5 min read
Most of us were never taught what a boundary actually is. So we confuse it with a wall, a threat, or a demand. None of those are boundaries.
A boundary is a statement about yourself. 'I'm not available for that conversation when you're yelling.' 'I won't continue dating someone who isn't ready for commitment.' 'I need an hour to myself after work before we talk about logistics.'
Boundaries don't try to control the other person. They tell the other person what you'll do — and what you won't. The other person gets to decide how they respond. That's it.
When you stop treating boundaries as punishments and start treating them as clarity, the relationships that can hold them get stronger. And the ones that can't reveal themselves quickly.
